What is a butterfly valve?

A butterfly valve is a rotatory valve that can be rotated quarterly to stop or start the flow of the liquid kept in the container. Butterfly valves are easy and quick to open. Just a 90 degree of rotation can completely close or open the valve. The flow of the product can be stopped in between the process and hence they are very useful for instant results. These valves are generally used in chemical, dairy, pharmaceutical, or beverage industries.


How does it Work?

A butterfly valve usually comes with an actuator and a hand wheel or disc that is connected to the stem via the actuator. The disc is the door to open or close the valve. When the pressure is applied to the actuator, the disc rotates 90 degrees from its current position and accordingly close or open the valve. There are three types of actuator gives three valves namely Manual Butterfly valves, Electrical Butterfly valves, and Pneumatic Butterfly valves. In general, there are four different types of butterfly valves that differ from each other on the basis of their designs. These are the different types of butterfly valves:

Working Condition of Butterfly Valve

A butterfly valve works on different working condition. These conditions depend on the strength of the valve and their fluid resistance capacity. Here are some conditions, where it is recommended to use the butterfly valve:
  • With the requirement of throttling and flow control.
  • A Product containing mud or solid particles.
  • When there is a requirement of the short structured valve.
  • When there is a requirement of valve that works fast.
  • In the area, where pressure difference is low.
